Mass Hysteria

This is a place for me to post my rage at socio-politico-economico idiocracy. That and keep in touch with my friends. And also I don't wanna be the last of my friends with a blog.

Gonna take some cuts after work

Last Wednesday Rob left a message for me on my answering machine inviting me to meet him at the batting cage to take some cuts. Rob's excitment about this upcoming MSBL season was apparent; he kept talking about his mile-runs several times per week, and about his new duties coaching track at the high school where he had just started teaching. Even though he turned 30 during the off-season, his pitching form was as good as I've seen it in the 3 years that we've played together. This would be a rare occasion for him to be in Albuquerque during the week, but alas I had other stuff to do and couldn't meet him. I had to get some things around the house done before my LA trip.

Rob's enthusiasm and hope is hard to deny. For the duration of my relationship with him, he has been in college finishing his teaching degree while working odd jobs (including the Victoria's Secret call-center) to try to get by. Since we've been practicing for this season (about 3 weeks now) he's been obviously stoked that he and Trish have really turned a corner in their marriage, and they're really doing well. Financially they're doing better than they ever have, and they even have more time for 4 year old Jonah now.

Yesterday I got a call from Brandon giving me details of Rob's memorial service which will be tonight at 6:30 pm in Belen.

James 4:13-15 (New King James Version):
13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.”
